Title: | Assessment for Learning Techniques in the Pacific Island Context: What are Teachers' Views? | Contributor(s): | Serow, Penelope (author) ; Clark, Julie (author) | Publication Date: | 2019 | Open Access: | Yes | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/28088 | Open Access Link: | https://merga.net.au/common/Uploaded%20files/Annual%20Conference%20Proceedings/2019%20Annual%20Conference%20Proceedings/RP_Serow_Clark.pdf | Abstract: | This study investigated teachers' views, all from a Pacific Island context, of assessment practices as it relates to mathematics learning in early childhood, primary, and secondary settings. Based on the analysis of these views, collected via a written survey (n=25) from invited workshop participants in Nauru, a series of four mathematics assessment workshops was designed where the participants engaged in the creation of authentic assessment tasks that are linked to the teaching/learning cycle. Post-surveys and in-depth interviews with six teachers explored their views about using authentic assessment in Nauru. The teachers' views concern the purpose of assessment and their current assessment practices. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | MERGA 42: 42nd Annual Conference of Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia, Perth, Australia, 30th June - 4th July, 2019 | Source of Publication: | Mathematics Education Research: Impacting Practice (Proceedings of the 42nd annual conference of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia), p. 644-651 | Publisher: | Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (MERGA) | Place of Publication: | Adelaide, Australia | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 130311 Pacific Peoples Education 130208 Mathematics and Numeracy Curriculum and Pedagogy |
