Title: | The Repronomics Project - Enabling Genetic Improvement in Reproduction in Northern Australia | Contributor(s): | Johnston, David (author) ; Grant, T P (author); Schatz, T J (author); Burns, B M (author); Fordyce, G (author); Lyons, R E (author) | Publication Date: | 2017 | Open Access: | Yes | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/23446 | Open Access Link: | http://www.aaabg.org/aaabghome/fullproc22.php | Abstract: | This paper provides a brief description of a large breeding and genotyping project currently being conducted in northern Australia using three tropically-adapted beef breeds. Intensive recording of early-in-life female reproduction phenotypes using real-time ultrasound on large numbers of females will significantly increase the size of the genomic reference populations for these key traits and breeds. This phenotypic data, along with high density SNP genotypes, will provide crucial data to enable the effective implementation of new BREEDPLAN genomic evaluations currently being developed for the Australian beef industry, and will assist in increasing the accuracy of selection, especially in young bulls. The project design will also allow investigations of GxE interactions for female reproduction traits; the potential development of new traits; and methodologies required for the implementation of across-breed genomic evaluations. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | AAABG 2017: 22nd Conference of the Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Townsville, Australia, 2nd - 5th July, 2017 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics, v.22, p. 385-388 | Publisher: | Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics (AAABG) | Place of Publication: | Armidale, Australia | ISSN: | 1328-3227 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 070201 Animal Breeding | Fields of Research (FoR) 2020: | 300305 Animal reproduction and breeding | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 830301 Beef Cattle | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2020: | 100401 Beef cattle | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.aaabg.org/aaabghome/ |
