Abstract/Context: Collected quantitative data from 220 students in Kalutara, Colombo, NuwaraEliya, and Monaragala districts in Sri Lanka using a survey. And conducted interviews with 24 students, 12 teachers and 12 principals and collected qualitative data. Those data were used to reveal the motivation and engagement levels, differences among gender and ethnicity, school-related conditions, and motivational strategies taken by the schools to examine early adolescents’ motivation and engagement in learning and impact of school-related conditions in low socio-economic districts in Sri Lanka.
