Title: | N.C.W. Beadle Herbarium dataset of Si gel collections | Contributor(s): | Bruhl, Jeremy (author) ; Telford, Ian (author) | Publication Date: | 1958-12-31 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/215327 | Abstract/Context: | The NE Si gel dataset refers to records of the N.C.W. Beadle Herbarium where associated collections of plant material dried on silica gel to preserve DNA for later extraction in molecular systematics and DNA fingerprinting studies of plants were made at the time of collection of the herbarium voucher. A record is kept of use of these samples, which are used for UNE and collaborative projects and generally made available upon request to the director. The collection includes more than 2,000 records. The specimen sheet collection of the N.C.W. Beadle Herbarium is databased and available to registered users for online data entry and data query. Records include most standard herbarium label fields (see http://www.une.edu.au/herbarium/collecting.php) as used across Australia (e.g. http://www.anbg.gov.au/cpbr/herbarium/collecting/field-note-book.html) including name, collector(s), locality and habitat. | Publication Type: | Dataset | Fields of Research (FOR): | 060799 Plant Biology not elsewhere classified 059999 Environmental Sciences not elsewhere classified |

Beadle Herbarium Collection should make prior arrangements with the Director or Curator. Specimens are generally available on loan to recognised herbaria (if overseas, they need to be CITES registered) for scientific research in the public interest through activities and procedures that will not endanger the safety and integrity of the specimens as archival objects. The safety and security of the specimens is paramount. Requests to borrow specimens from Herbarium NE should be sent to the Director.Access to the Herbarium database is by login only. Those interested in access may request a login from http://gsw1-herbarium01-vm.intersect.org.au/users/sign_up. Alternatively, NE specimens can be accessed as part of an AVH search (http://avh.ala.org.au/) N.C.W. Beadle Herbarium data are supplied as is.
