Abstract
A first edition of the present synoptic grammar of the Bumthang language was published in Dutch in 1995 as 'Een eerste grammaticale verkenning van het Bumthang, een taal van midden-Bhutan, met een overzicht van de talen en volkeren van Bhutan'. The Dutch title can be rendered into English as 'a first grammatical reconnaissance of the Bumthang language, a language of central Bhutan, with an overview of the languages and linguistic communities of Bhutan'. The Bumthang grammar was published in Leiden by the curiously named and now defunct 'Onderzoeksschool Centrum voor niet-Westerse Studiën' or - as its name used to be rendered into English - the School of Asian, African and Amerindian Studies.
