Title: | Review of 'Dubi Nanda Dhakal. Darai Texts' (Languages of the World/Text Collections 32). Munchen: LINCOM Europa, 2013, 132 pp | Contributor(s): | van Driem, George (author) | Publication Date: | 2015 | DOI: | 10.1515/jsall-2015-0015 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/20857 | Abstract: | Brian Houghton Hodgson (1857: 321-327) was the first linguist to report on the Darai language, which he mentioned under the names "Daḍhī", "Dare" and "Dahi". Later, George Grierson (1916, IX (IV): 18-19) wrote disparagingly of the Darai, saying that "all that they do is to speak bad Khas-kurā". In fact, the Darai language is far more interesting than defective Nepali could ever be. | Publication Type: | Review | Source of Publication: | Journal of South Asian Languages and Linguistics, 2(2), p. 263-267 | Publisher: | De Gruyter Mouton | Place of Publication: | Germany | ISSN: | 2196-078X 2196-0771 |
