The long-term goal of this collaborative partnership was to promote playgrounds built of locally sourced materials as safe and stimulating play and learning environments for children and also to serve as community hubs. This field report describes the activities involved in developing the demonstration site including the multiple project partnerships, the community-informed playground design and the playground construction process. Our shared experiences indicate there is much potential for future playground development and we strongly advocate school playgrounds as play and learning environments in Papua New Guinea. | Publication Type: | Journal Article | Source of Publication: | Children, Youth and Environments, 26(1), p. 179-194 | Publisher: | University of Colorado | Place of Publication: | United States of America | ISSN: | 1546-2250 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 130311 Pacific Peoples Education | Fields of Research (FoR) 2020: | 451405 Pacific Peoples educational methods | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 930499 School/Institution not elsewhere classified 930199 Learner and Learning not elsewhere classified |
