Abstract: There are many fine films exposing and condemning Nazism. Some of my favourites are the joint Soviet-Belorussian war film 'Come and See' (1985); the great German historical reconstruction of 'Downfall' ('Der Untergang'; 2004); the Scandi-co-production 'Hamsun' (1996) with Max von Sydow's powerful portrayal of the famous writer's collaborationism; and in a similar vein the brilliant performance of Klaus Maria Brandauer as the compromised actor in the Hungarian 'Mephisto' (1981).
