Title: | Casual Teaching: A significant gap in professional learning | Contributor(s): | Jenkins, Kathryn A (author) | Publication Date: | 2015 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/17619 | Abstract: | Numerous novice teachers begin their teaching careers as casual teachers (CTs), thus are increasingly 'at risk' of leaving the profession. Subsequently, there is a dire need for appropriate teacher education for pre-service teachers and professional learning of practising teachers and principals to facilitate ways for CTs to survive and thrive within their schools. A new B Ed unit and research carried out with CTs have highlighted some ways to facilitate significant understandings and skills required by pre-service teachers to become successful CTs and permanent teaching colleagues to support their more itinerant colleagues. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | Conversations on KfT 2015: Conversations on Knowledge for Teaching Conference, Newnham, Australia, 11th - 13th February, 2015 | Source of Publication: | Conversations on Knowledge for Teaching: Contributor Papers, p. 1-4 | Publisher: | Australian Government, Office for Learning and Teaching | Place of Publication: | Sydney, Australia | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 139999 Education not elsewhere classified | Fields of Research (FoR) 2020: | 399999 Other education not elsewhere classified | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 939999 Education and Training not elsewhere classified | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2020: | 169999 Other education and training not elsewhere classified | HERDC Category Description: | E2 Non-Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://conversationsonkft.weebly.com/papers.html |
