Title: | Introduction to the Temein languages | Contributor(s): | Blench, Roger (author) | Publication Date: | 2013 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/17164 | Abstract: | The Temein cluster consists of three languages spoken in the Nuba Mountains, Sudan, north of Kadugli. Little has been published on these languages, but Roland Stevenson elicited substantial lexical data during the 1970s and 1980s, mostly from Khartoum-based informants. This paper is based primarily on Stevenson's material, i.e., lists of almost 600 words for each of the three Temein varieties. Additional information is taken from Yip (2004), which appears to be the only publication dealing specifically with one of the Temein languages. All data in this paper is from Stevenson's wordlists unless explicitly stated otherwise. | Publication Type: | Book Chapter | Source of Publication: | Nuba Mountain Language Studies, p. 485-500 | Publisher: | Rüdiger Köppe Verlag | Place of Publication: | Cologne, Germany | ISBN: | 9783896454270 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 200406 Language in Time and Space (incl Historical Linguistics, Dialectology) | Fields of Research (FoR) 2020: | 470406 Historical, comparative and typological linguistics | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 970120 Expanding Knowledge in Language, Communication and Culture | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2020: | 280116 Expanding knowledge in language, communication and culture 280114 Expanding knowledge in Indigenous studies |
