This book is a product of many discussions and other types of scholarly exchanges with our kind, innovative, and energetic peers. Nonetheless, the most important impetus was Thomas (Tom) Sutton, our good friend and colleague at Routledge. Many social scientists have good or great ideas, yet never put them on paper. Tom wouldn't let us get away with that and strongly encouraged us at the 2011 American Society ofCriminology conference in Washington, DC, to draft a proposal. Weare deeply grateful that he motivated us to do so because not only did we write this book, but we were also prompted to review materials that would not have otherwise read and incorporated into our presentation and critical analysis of rural criminology scholarship. Special thanks go to another great person at Routledge - Nicola Hartley. She kept us on schedule and went beyond the call of duty in ways too numerous to mention here. |
