Abstract |
The Pomegranate Cycle is a solo project, an opera that experiments in ambient electronica and post-classical forms, and that is woven from song, sound textures and fragmented orchestration. The Pomegranate Cycle responds to the myth of the Greek fertility goddess, Persephone, to engage with issues of violence against women. It critiques opera's reliance on stories about gendered violence, perpetuated in the trope of the dying soprano: this Persephone lives and heals following her tragic violation. Music Publisher's number: WW12.
