Abstract: Canadians, citizens of a country that is only 134 years old and a nation of immigrants, frequently talk about and reflect on who they are. They note their own changing identities and wonder where they belong. Jerry Diakiw, (1996a), a Canadian educator and researcher whose parents were originally from the Ukraine, maintains that reading Canadian children's literature helped him along the journey towards becoming fully "Canadian."
