Abstract |
This publication concentrates on the 8-11 age group and is one part of a series of three books that provide practical solutions aimed at helping young people between the ages of 5-years and adolescence, make good choices. The author, Tina Rae, who, as an educational psychologist, has an understanding of how difficult it can be for young people to make choices that ultimately benefit them in the short or even the long-term, attempts to address this important issue. The aim of the programme is, in the words of Rae, "for students to develop the ability to make good choices and to make use of brain and feelings to inform behaviours which will achieve for them the best possible outcomes" (p 4). She argues that this aim could be achieved through doing the following: - Further developing self-awareness, self-esteem and self-worth. - Encouraging students to generate a range of alternative solutions. - Enabling students to identify the feelings they experience and to gain a deeper understanding of such feelings.
