dc.description.abstractWe have all read the scary statistics. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP, 2002) revealed that secondary school students are reading below expected levels. The Alliance for Excellent Education (AEE) made public that one in four secondary students is unable to read and comprehend textbook material. A flurry of reports and research studies have been published lately which address the "adolescent literacy crisis" (Kamil, 2003 National Commission on Writing, 2004; Biancarosa & Snow, 2004; NCTE, 2006).en
