Abstract: Indonesian (or bahasa Indonesia, as we say in Indonesian) is the national language of Indonesia. Most Indonesians learn it at school and use it in many daily situations, particularly for reading and writing. Bahasa Indonesia is not the only language used in Indonesia and most people also speak at least one local or regional language as well. Bahasa Indonesia is related to Malay and can be understood in Malaysia and other parts of South-East Asia (for example, in Timor).
