Abstract |
Historically Norwegian society was nearly mono-cultural, until the arrival of migrant workers and refugees from non-European countries in the later part of the 20th Century. These developments led to the gradual emergence of a more multicultural Norwegian society and with this the growth of the population of students from other cultures in public schools. As the decades of educational research began to show, there was a clear gap between mainstream students and those of minority backgrounds in educational participation, completion and achievement. This precipitated an increased interest in how minority students are educated in Norway.
