In this workshop, participants will be introduced to some tools for analysing multimodal components in test materials, with a particular focus on image-language interaction. These tools will be derived from research on visual grammar and image-language relations. Participants will be given the opportunity to examine a selection of test materials designed for primary, junior secondary and senior secondary students, and engage in activities designed to explore how multimodal components may influence the comprehension of test items. Implications for practice in contexts relevant to participants' teaching will also be considered in this workshop in relation to: 1. teaching multiliteracies; 2. test construction; and 3. understanding the relationship between curriculum and assessment. |
