Abstract |
This paper reflects on the 2012 Adult Learning Australia conference themes of learning, resilience and community. Both resilience and community are popular terms within public policy, academia and public discourse. The main focus here is on resilience, and how this intersects with the idea of community. In the paper theoretical conceptualisations and research on resilience from a number of disciplines are integrated with reflections from the author's own experiences. Through the process of engaging with the academic literature and relating it to her own experiences what is revealed is the complexity in the interaction between different concepts of resilience, the idea of community and learning theory and practice.
