Title: | Australian Indigeneity and Political Literature: Bruce Chatwin and Australian Politics | Contributor(s): | Archer, Jeffrey Robert (author) | Publication Date: | 2006 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/1174 | Abstract: | The Politics of Indigeneity in Australia is examined from a number of perspectives, such as:* settler nationalism;* sub-state nationalism; and* postcolonialism. This analysis is compared with the treatment of Australian Indigeneity as nomadism in Chatwin's novel Songlines. Some problems of Chatwin's treatment of the topic are identified. Beyond these cultural and historical interpretations that have dismayed some critics, it is argued that Chatwin's literary imagination raises some important questions. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | APSA 2006: Australian Political Studies Association Annual Conference, Newcastle, Australia, 25th - 27th September, 2006 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the Australasian Political Studies Association Annual Conference: Australian and New Zealand Politics, p. 1-24 | Publisher: | Australasian Political Studies Association (APSA) | Place of Publication: | Newcastle, Australia | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 160699 Political Science not elsewhere classified | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.newcastle.edu.au/Resources/Schools/Economics%20Politics%20and%20Tourism/APSA%202006/ANZPOL/Archer,%20Jeff.pdf http://www.newcastle.edu.au/school/business/areas-of-study/politics/apsa.html |
