It is hoped that the study of the papers in this booklet will lead the reader to a further study in depth of Norway, and also that he will be stimulated to visit Norway and its colonies, much of the landscape of which may be seen to have changed very slightly over the past 1,OOO years. The social legislation of Norway is not, perhaps, so very different from that of the other Scandinavian countries, but the study of a system that was emerging in roughly the same period as modern Australia, may be seen to have considerable contemporary value. Norway is within easy reach of England and the cheapness of travel in Scandinavia makes it a reasonable exercise in further activities for those who delight in world travel. The final value of a course like this may not be obvious immediately, but it is hoped that the most viable part of the English-speaking peoples' Germanic heritage will remain in the mind with the sharpness and intensity of the famous summer light in this northern province.en
