St Malo, France, 17 December 1772; d. Paris, France, 18 November 1838), medical theory, therapeutics. Broussais was born in St Malo, on the Brittany coast, and spent his early years in the nearby village of Pleurtuit. His family had practiced the healing arts for several generations - his father as a surgeon, one of his grandfathers as a pharmacist, and one of his great-grandfathers as a physician.
