Abstract: This paper outlines an innovative pedagogic intervention, QuickSmart, which focuses on improving reading fluency and comprehension skills. The intervention targets middle-school students experiencing difficulties with reading and understanding texts. The research presented focuses on the key role of working memory and automaticity in developing literacy for students with learning difficulties.
