Abstract: Research Aims: describe potential social network, identify actual social network, propose a modified social network typology, identify the barriers to social contact, frequency and duration of visit. Implications for Policy and Practice: residents placed within 15 kilometres of primary kin, identify those with attenuated social networks, transport to the nursing home examined, nursing homes become more integrated into their local communities, extended roles for visitors.
