Abstract |
Most of the books and reports produced by CHEPS are the outcomes of our research programme and projects, or commissioned research and consultancy activities. This book is different - it is an outcome of a dialogue....In this book we have attempted to capture some of the insights that have emerged from this dialogue. We hope that these insights will make a modest contribution to the ongoing policy development and reform process in the four countries, and will add to our understanding of the dynamics of higher education system change in more general terms. Although the logic of the process that led to four countries participating in the programme was strictly diplomatic - not a scientifically drawn sample of Central andEastern European higher education systems - we also believe that these insights will be of interest more widely in the region; and particularly to the other six pre-accession countries in Central and Eastern Europe. CHEPS has had the opportunity to arrangethree workshops for this wider group of 1O countries over the past two years, and hopes that this book will provide further impetus for the broadening and deepening of this dialogue in the crucial years ahead.
