Abstract

The benefits of effective teamwork have a strong evidence base for enhancing problem-solving, creativity, decision-making, and increasing efficiency and productivity. Teamwork can also improve communication, motivation, learning, and morale, promoting a positive and collaborative work environment that helps team members to work well and better adapt to change. While there are many benefits to teamwork, the desire for cohesion and the avoidance of conflict can also create an environment ripe for Groupthink, especially when there is pressure to conform, a lack of diverse perspectives, or an overemphasis on agreement at the expense of critical discussion.
