Abstract
Timor Leste, also known as East Timor, has been combating poverty since it regained independence from Indonesia in 2002. About two-thirds of the population live in rural areas with the majority relying on agriculture for their main source of livelihood (Ministry of Finance 2008). Given the strong reliance on agriculture, the government has focused on agricultural development as a key pillar of economic development (MAF 2012).
