| Abstract |
Waters within the jurisdiction of the stales and the NT which extend three nautical miles seaward. Coastal waters are part of Australia's territorial sea. This arrangement reflects the Offshore Constitutional Settlement of 1979 between the states and the Commonwealth. See the 'Coastal Waters (Northern Territory Powers) Act 1980' (Cth ); 'Coastal Waters (Northern Territory Title) Act 1980' (Cth); 'Coastal Waters (State Powers) Act 1980' (Cth); and 'Coastal Waters (State Title) Act 1980' (Cth).
