Abstract
'Lost in the Bush' has been an insistent theme in Australian popular story of the past, usually based on real events. There is a special poignancy about those lost forever in trackless wastes, but Australian narrative on the subject has concentrated on the innocent of the naïve, in accordance with a high Victorian sentimentality that lingered on well into the twentieth century.
