Abstract |
<p>There were Hellenodikai ("Judges of the Hellenes"; also transliterated Hellanodikai) for the Olympian FESTIVAL (see below), the Nemean festival (<i>IG</i> IV.587: ten as at OLYMPIA, probably in imitation of it, in the mid-fourth century bce), and the Asclepieia festival at EPIDAURUS (<i>IG</i> IV² 1.66, 1.98; see <i>SEG</i> 61-230), who acted as referees and umpires for the athletic contests.</p>
