The Australian Disaster Resilience Index was the first nationally standardised assessment of disaster resilience in Australia. Scientifically rigorous and peer-reviewed, the index was developed through a research project funded by the BNHCRC and in consultation with stakeholders from multiple emergency service agencies.
The Australian Disaster Resilience Index conceptualises disaster resilience as a set of coping and adaptive capacities, and component themes, that array the potential for systemic disaster resilience. Indexes are generated with a top-down approach (Parsons et al. 2016) using primary variables derived from public sources.
